Anthony’s Deli
Call

This is a design concept, not the official website of Anthony’s Famous Gourmet Deli. It was made by an independent student designer without the deli’s involvement and is marked so search engines will not list it. Details came from public listings. Anthony’s Famous Gourmet Deli

Open 24 hours · Seven days

Open now. And at four in the morning.

Twenty-four hours, seven days a week, every week. There is no closing time to look up, no shorter Sunday and no holiday note. That is a genuinely rare thing to be able to say, which is why it should be the first thing anybody reads.

169 East Gun Hill Road, Norwood, Bronx. The address, the phone number and the hours on this page were read off public listings, not handed over by the deli.

No closing time. Not one, all week.

Every one of the twenty-four hours is an open hour, on every day of the week.

A shop that never shuts is not selling convenience, it is selling certainty. And certainty is exactly the sort of thing that gets lost on a listing page, where “Open 24 hours” is one grey line among nineteen attributes.

Whoever is awake at three in the morning, coming off a shift or going onto one, is not browsing. They want one page that says yes.

Whether that holds on Thanksgiving, on Christmas Day and through a blizzard is one of the things this page does not know, and does not pretend to.

The whole description this deli has published of itself is five words long.

“We make the best sandwich.”

Published by the business. Not a review, not a slogan somebody else wrote.

That is the whole thing. Five words, published by the owner, and then it stops, on a listing page, behind a “read more” link that has nothing more to show.

It is not a bad sentence. It is confident, it is short, and it sounds like somebody actually said it out loud. It is just doing all of the work on its own, with a twenty-four-hour shop and a sandwich named after nurses standing behind it and saying nothing.

Two of the sandwiches are named after somebody, and nobody has said who.

These are real item names, taken from their own listing. Both are the sort of name a shop only invents when it has a particular customer in mind, and neither is explained anywhere.

Nurse’s Delight

Somebody is being thanked here, and the name is doing it in public. What is actually in it, nobody has written down.

Monti

Four letters, no explanation anywhere. It clearly means something locally, and that meaning is currently a private joke rather than a reason to walk in.

No guess at either name appears on this page. Both sound like they have a story attached, and a story invented by a stranger would be worse than no story at all.

But two sentences, what is in it and who it is named for, would be the best writing on the whole site, and only the people behind the counter can supply them.

What people come in and ask for.

Every item below is one that customers named in public, in their own words. This is not the deli’s menu, it is not in the deli’s order, and it is certainly not all of it.

  • Bronx Bomber
  • Chicken cutlet
  • Roast beef
  • Quesadillas
  • Hero sandwiches
  • Bacon, egg and cheese

Delivery, take-out, and paying.

Three things the listings state plainly, and one thing they leave out entirely.

Delivery

Listed as available. How far it goes and which hours it runs are not published anywhere, so neither is stated here. Ask on the phone.

Take-out

Listed as available. Nothing further about how it works is published.

Paying

Credit cards accepted, according to the same public listings the rest of this page was built from.

There is not one photograph on this page.

142 photographs of this deli already sit on a public listing. Not one of them is mine to publish, so not one of them is here. The three slots below are where a real photograph would go, left empty on purpose.

Three pictures taken on a phone behind the counter, and permission to use them, would fill all three in an afternoon.

Every line in this table came from a public listing rather than from the deli, and every one of them is worth a correction if it is wrong.

What this page could not confirm.

Printed here rather than guessed at. Five short answers from behind the counter would close every one of them.

  • What is in a Nurse’s Delight, and what a Monti is Both names are real and both are unexplained. No guess appears anywhere on this page.
  • Whether the twenty-four hours hold all year Holidays, Christmas Day, and the nights when the weather decides for you.
  • A menu, and prices Neither is published anywhere, so neither appears here.
  • The delivery area, and the hours delivery runs Delivery is listed. Nothing else about it is.
  • Photographs Which of the pictures online are the deli’s own, and may be used here.

Until then, the surest thing on this page is the phone number: (718) 798-4773.
